In October 2015 I co-founded Stareable, an audience-building platform for web series creators. In May 2018, I came onboard full-time as Head of Product (and the sole designer). I was responsible for everything from setting the roadmap and defining features, to user testing and UI/UX.
HEAD OF PRODUCT / STAREABLE, 2018–2019
Creator Onboarding
Shipped: June 2018
Product Designer: Alex Menglide
Developers: John Langhauser, HaiChen Song
We re-designed the onboarding process with the intention of reducing drop-off, increasing show submissions, eliminating confusion, and prompting creators to take advantage of every tool on Stareable.
Cast & Crew
Shipped: July 2018
Product Designer: Alex Menglide
Developers: John Langhauser, HaiChen Song
Our IMDb-inspired Cast & Crew feature allows creators to credit their teams on Stareable. This had a huge impact on growth metrics and established the foundation for team-based coordination of social media updates (see Updates).
Updates
Shipped: November 2018
Product Designer: Alex Menglide
Developers: John Langhauser, HaiChen Song
In our continuing bid to centralize show management onto Stareable, we built Updates—a feature that enables creators to manage social media marketing through our platform, and leverage their Cast & Crew networks to amplify communication and access a broader audience.
Enrich
Shipped: February 2019
Product Designer: Alex Menglide
Developers: John Langhauser, HaiChen Song
With Enrich, creators have the option to set up support tiers so their fans can pay a monthly fee in exchange for bonus and behind-the-scenes content. This was our most complex feature to date, requiring Stripe integration and numerous user tests for both sides of the marketplace.
unsolicited feedback 😇
Building a product from scratch is hard, so any positive feedback from our community means the world. (We like constructive feedback, too!) Whenever the going gets tough, messages like these remind me that the web series community is rooting for us.
